My father died when I was sixteen. Although I don't recall writing this as a direct response to his death it seems obvious that those feelings informed the lyric.

The lyric, based on an earlier draft, was completed in 1979.

I'm not sure when the demo was done. I recovered the recording from an old cassette tape so the sound quality isn't all that great.

Becomes as silent as a star
Standing in a dark foreboding sky
A part of me will die.

When my arms can’t hold you near
Your eyes and laughter disappear
I’ll have to say my last goodbye
And part of me will die.

From all those years I shared with you
But I will long for so much more than these.
Will I find it when this stormy night is through?
